The book list for Dark Arts came by owl this morning. Whew!
I'll be on my way to Diagon Alley in a bit, with Philip (who doesn't need any books for Dark Arts yet but is very, very excited to be going to Hogwarts this fall). See some of you later...

I'm really glad I'm going to the bookstore early.

Are you already in the queue for the shop? We've arrived but I don't see you.

Re: I Solemnly Swear That I Am Up To No Good
Date: 2012-08-28 12:07 am (UTC)I didn't buy the books, because the word came out after we had already left for London, and Gran had only enough for my books that we knew about, no more.
She sure isn't pleased about it. She was even talking about sending a letter to Hogwarts to see if Evelyn and me can get out of it, but I don't think that'd be a good idea. Given, you know, who my parents are. I can't be seen as shirking, exactly.
But I really don't want to take it. Neither Evelyn or I do.

I'm thinking I'll ditch Divination, y'know? Only, I'm taking three electives and you don't have to, and it turns out there's a book that the sixth years have to have that's shared with Runes, so I guess I won't drop that. Otherwise, I totally would, because Divination doesn't take any work, really. It's all creative writing, innit? And I actually like Creatures, even with Professor G-P, so I'm not dropping that.
I don't know.
No, actually, I do. I can't believe we have to take Dark Arts. I was just asking Dad about whether it would be all right to drop out of CCF, and we'd decided it really isn't safe to. And for sure not, now, if they're making all of us do Dark Arts.
Dad said about CCF that I should figure out if the benefits are worth more than the compromises you have to make, or, y'know, than the things you have to do that are just dead wrong. He asked what I think the benefits of staying in are, and I told him all the stuff we're actually learning--the orienteering and defence stuff and tactics. I mean, mostly, we're learning what tactics the Protectorate will use if we ever have to fight them. That's why we applied, right? You, too.
We've got loads to tell you about, if you want, because this summer was way more serious than last year. I mean the marching and the uniforms, that was dead ridiculous compared to the rest, but I'm dead glad to know what the rest of them are learning--and to be learning it, too.
Actually, that's what we should be doing if we get up this club we're talking about. We should teach you the stuff we learned in CCF, and practice it ourselves, and we should totally be figuring out other tactics to use against anyone using those strategies. Am I right?

Date: 2012-08-28 03:18 am (UTC)Makes sense, what you talked about with your Dad, I mean.
Now you're making me think about dropping Divination. A lot of people might, now that we have another core course.
Ugh. I can't believe we have to take Dark Arts, either.
