Exam Week

I have been having a lot of trouble revising, but exam week has mostly been going okay. I guess I'd done enough work beforehand that I mostly remembered everything, at least in the classes with a practical component. I don't know about History of Magic. I was very happy with how the Runes project turned out, at least.

I am especially glad that the Dark Arts exam is over.

Professor Slughorn, if it's possible I would like to stop by your office to talk when you are not busy with exams. I am hoping you can give me advice regarding next year.

Thank you. Thank you so much. I think she was really planning to hurt me. I was afraid when you jumped up that she would hurt you instead but I guess she had enough sense not to.

I'm going to talk to Professor Slughorn about whether I should take Dark Arts next year or just drop it. He was the one who suggested I try to get in, because it would help me make connections, but those connections won't do me much good if I'm hurt too badly for Madam Pomfrey to heal the next time Professor Carrow drops a bookcase on me.

I just posted about how I wrote to my dad. I want her to see it. I want her to know that she isnt allowed to do that any more. Not even to you.

I think you should take Dark Arts after all. Don't let her grind you down.

I think I'm going to drop Dark Arts.

When we got to the exam today Miss Professor Carrow noticed right away that Harry hadn't brought Hermione with him and she made a bunch of comments about it, really scary, threatening comments. And then, she had a bunch of common rats and we went up one at a time to try again whatever of the Cardinal Curses we'd tried a year ago in that 'taster' class. And whatever it was, whether we failed or succeeded she'd do it herself to 'show us how it was done,' you know.

When everyone finished she said she wanted to give a few students the opportunity to raise their marks by duelling two-on-one and then she called up Greg and Vince AND ME and I realised she was going to put me right under that bookcase again, and it looked even less stable than it had last time and she'd stacked... oh, I don't even want to think about it. Heavy things. But before I could go up Harry jumped up and shouted that if anyone was going to get a chance to raise their mark it ought to be him and he wanted to be the one to duel Vince and Greg, and he went up to the front of the room and got ready and then she said never mind, we were actually out of time and dismissed us.

I hate her. I HATE HER.

The rat I had to kill, I closed my eyes and pretended I was casting Avada Kedavra on Carrow. And it might have worked except that since my eyes were closed the spell missed the rat. It completely blew apart the glass container the rat was in, though.

Anyway I'm going to talk to Professor Slughorn and see what he thinks but I can't think of anything he could say that would make me want to stay in. I'm not a Gryffindor and if someone actually wants to hurt me I want to AVOID them, not sit class with them once a week. Maybe I could take the Arithmancy book home over the summer and learn enough to switch to Arithmancy.

And I just want to be clear. Harry didn't care about his mark when he stood up. He was protecting me. He knew what she was planning and he didn't think she'd dare do it to him.

For a minute I thought he was wrong (Draco, too, he went utterly white) but she's got more sense than her brother.

And I'm really, really glad Hermione didn't go.

I don't know what Professor Carrow was planning to do to her. But I'm sure it was something awful.

I feel a little silly now -- Daphne told me that Draco gave the signal and she was just about to start screaming. We had a plan, you see, in case things started to go pear-shaped in that class again. It was Daphne's job to create a distraction or, if Daphne was the one in the soup, it was my job.

So, Draco and Daphne and most of the rest of my house had my back and I didn't even think about it until later.

I don't know. I'm still going to talk to Professor Slughorn about dropping Dark Arts.

The cunning Slytherin plan was for Daphne Greengrass to start screaming?

And you don't think that might have sent Miss Professor Marrowbone off her nut? She'd probably have started cursing everyone in sight! Though maybe she'd have started with Greengrass, and you could have jumped behind Goyle or under a table or something.

Or run away.

Well it wasn't JUST for Daphne to scream. She was going to scream that a rat had escaped, jump on her desk, and then pretend to faint. So we'd have people running around and looking for the rat, and we'd have people fussing over Daphne, and the idea was to disrupt things completely and give me time to get out (and yes, I was supposed to get behind Vince or Greg, though I don't think they were looking at Draco so I'm not sure they would have remembered this was part of the plan.)

I'm glad Harry was there for you, and that she isn't as nutters as her awful horrible brother to put Harry in danger, but I hate her.

Guess she's realising that there's now an opening for the coveted position of Most Homicidal Professor at Hogwarts.

Good on Marvolo for foiling her. We owe him one. And yeah, dropping that class sounds like a really, really good idea.

No kidding. Blimey. Drop the class, definitely. What you could get out of it isn't worth the danger.

I think staying as far away from that inbred hateful hag would be a very smart idea.

If only for your nerves.

I'm glad it's over, too, the Dark Arts exam. All I can say is Miss Professor Carrow takes her subject dead seriously.

Got a bit hair-raising there at the end. I'd try a joke about how it was Harry-raising, too, except there wasn't a thing that was funny about it. Just, well-
