I Solemnly Swear That I Am Up To No Good

At first they tried not to do it when Aurelia was there because she was really close to her uncle. He was so proud when she got Sorted into Slytherin and he started sending her owls regularly. Her own parents were a little put out, I mean they weren't HORRIFIED but they would have preferred her in Ravenclaw. He gave her advice on her electives, what would be good for working at the Ministry since she thought she might like to follow him there.
So at first no one wanted to believe he'd really been in TROUBLE when he died. People in the Ministry talk with Aurors all the time and there isn't anything scandalous about it, it doesn't mean they're 'being questioned' even if the Aurors have questions for them you know? And people do die suddenly sometimes.
But there was the thing Mrs Lestrange said in her diary, which implied he'd been in trouble. And if he really hadn't been in any trouble, the family would have said so. And they didn't say ANYTHING. And it's been days, I mean, Aurelia and Gareth got the news on Wednesday night.
But they haven't said he was a traitor, either. And they would, if they knew.
On Saturday Aurelia started telling everyone she'd never really liked him, she just wrote back because her own parents said he was lonely. It was a complete lie, but for now everyone's pretending they believe her. Anyway it's clear Aurelia believes the worst. Or at least she thinks MLE is going to say in the end that he was a traitor in league with Black, so she wants to protect herself. She's also trying to protect Gareth, she said today to anyone who'd listen that her uncle was a TERRIBLE father. That he sent owls to her but almost never to Gareth. She said she thinks he rejected Gareth because he got Sorted into Gryffindor and I think that's a lie too but I'm glad she's trying to protect him. If someone's parents are found to be traitors they can get expelled from Hogwarts and sent to the camps. They haven't done anything yet though and that's a good sign.
But it made me think, if Mr Archer WAS in league with Sirius Black, that might explain why he ignored Gareth so much. I mean it was strange he would write so much to Aurelia and hardly ever to Gareth, and that much was true. I wonder if it's like how Nev's parents left him with his Gran, you know? Maybe Mr Archer was trying to keep Gareth safe.
Or maybe he was just a prat. I mean he's been avoiding talking to Gareth for years now and Sirius Black isn't even in England.
