So, Mrs Stretton took me shopping yesterday and everything worked out perfectly though by the end she had this look on her face like she knew I'd planned things out a certain way and she wasn't sure she liked it. But then I told her if she gave me the money I'd take Gemma shopping for clothes and shoes before I went back to school and that made her happy enough to distract her (Gemma wants her shoes to be pretty but they can't pinch AT ALL and also she doesn't like the feel of most cushioning charms and her definition of 'pretty' changes hourly. So shoe shopping with her is a bit of a trial.)

Anyway, we went to Miss Winchers, Pansy you were right she liked the idea of a place a bit cheaper than Harrod's. Their stockings were perfectly nice and while she was looking at the different colours and materials I snatched up the other things I needed and put them in the pile and said 'oh, I just remembered, I really need these, too.' And Mrs Stretton wasn't happy about it but Miss Winchers was perfect, she realised right away what I was about AND she said 'oh, I expect you also need pyjamas! and a dressing gown and slippers!' and started bustling around fetching things and Mrs Stretton felt like she couldn't say no without looking stingy. She hates looking stingy.

She did try pointing out to Miss Winchers that I wasn't her DAUGHTER, I was her foster child. And Miss Winchers looked surprised and said, 'but she still needs knickers, doesn't she?' And hinted that if Mrs Stretton sent me off to school in rags, my house mates would think the Strettons weren't taking good care of me.

I even have proper gloves now!

And then while we were eating lunch I pretended to find Sebastian. Mrs Stretton made me try to return him to the Magical Menagerie since she thought surely that's where he escaped from, but they said they weren't missing any rats. And then I thought she was going to try to make me give him away to one of the other customers but in the end she said I could keep him as long as he stays in my room.

And then we went looking for a birthday present and she made me get him a quill, just like I thought. As if Harry needs another quill. I talked her into also getting a deck of exploding snap cards that make funny noises with each explosion instead of just blowing up. So he can have something fun as well as something respectable. Anyway, off it went with an owl today. I didn't have the chance to put in the thing I was making, but that's okay, at least it included the exploding snap cards.
