I thought maybe you were acting surprised last night. I didn't put it there.

At least I'm pretty sure I didn't.

I remember everything else, so I'd remember that too.

Of course I didn't take it, I'd never go snooping through your things! I mean I guess if I'd realised you had something cursed I might, but I didn't know.

I didn't leave it out, so a house-elf wouldn't have picked it up by mistake or something.

I didn't let anyone else see it.

It was sort of like some guilty secret that was exciting at the same time. Like when I stole Sirius's records from his mum. Or started writing him. I just wanted to keep it all to myself.

I was just talking to Sirius about how I was so worried about everyone leaving me, and then there I was, being utterly mad, and the whole time you were writing me telling me that wasn't really who I was even though you were afraid, and oh, Sally-Anne.
